The SCBWI Presents...
The New York Showcase:
Children’s Book Art Exhibition and Auction

You’re an illustrator. You’ve been wondering how to get your work in front of those elusive art directors and editors in New York. You even have in mind the one special piece that you’re sure would WOW them. Here’s your opportunity to show it to them, and maybe even sell the piece in the process!

SCBWI is thrilled to announce the New York Showcase: Children’s Book Art Exhibition & Auction as a part of the 2003 New York Conference. The Conference is February 8-9 at the Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan. The New York Showcase will be the featured evening event on Saturday, February 8, 2003.

Can’t attend the conference? No worries! All members, near and far, are invited to submit work. Directions for mailing submissions are in the guidelines below.

The Exhibition: For the first time ever, we will display all of the art submitted during a VIP cocktail party that will include publishers, art directors, and editors from all of the major publishing houses, as well as all conference attendees. At this unique event, our members will showcase their work for hundreds of prominent people in the children’s book community.

The Auction: During the party, a prestigious group of art directors and children’s book illustrators will select fifteen pieces of artwork. These Grand Jury Finalists will be sold at a live auction that same evening. The SCBWI will start the live auction bidding for each piece selected at $100. All proceeds from the live auction go directly to the artist.

The Grand Jury Award: In addition, one of the Finalists will become the Grand Jury Winner. The SCBWI will award a full page in Picturebook Directory of Children’s Illustration, to the winner.

Guidelines:
• All SCBWI members are eligible to participate.
• Anyone who enters agrees to participate in the live auction if his or her work is selected as a Grand Jury Finalist.
• For full-time conference attendees, the entrance fee is $50.
• For members not attending the conference, the entrance fee is $85.
• Anyone not attending must send his or her artwork to the SCBWI Executive Office: SCBWI, New York Showcase 8271 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90048. It must arrive no later than January 14th, 2003. You must also include postage and packing for your artwork to be returned to you.
