Deby Fredericks, who writes for children as Lucy D. Ford, has been a writer all her life. She viewed it as just a fun hobby until the late 1990s; her first professional sale was in 2000.
“Lucy” has had short stories and poetry published in magazines such as Boys’ Life, Babybug, Ladybug, and Spider. Her middle-grade fantasy, Masters of Air & Fire, was published by Sky Warrior Books in 2015.
Deby has four fantasy novels in print. Her latest is The Grimhold Wolf (2015), through Sky Warrior Books, where she also edits intermittently. Three others are with Dragon Moon Press. They are The Magister’s Mask (2004), Too Many Princes (2007) and The Necromancer’s Bones (2009).
Fredericks works as a substitute School Secretary in Spokane, WA. Having daily contact with so many different kids is a constant source of inspiration.
How do writers get ideas? Do we really have to revise and write new drafts? How do writers get published? My presentation covers this and more, plus I lead students in a story creation project.
