Lisze Bechtold is the author and illustrator of picture books and early readers. SALLY AND THE PURPLE SOCKS was a Children’s Choice Book, and was part of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Literacy Program. BUSTER THE VERY SHY DOG and the sequel, BUSTER & PHOEBE: THE GREAT BONE GAME, both received Oppenheimer Gold Awards. BUSTER & PHOEBE was a 2005 Maryland Blue Crab Honor Book as well. After over 10 years in print, BUSTER THE VERY SHY DOG will be republished as a Green Light Reader along with a new Buster book, BUSTER THE VERY SHY DOG FINDS A KITTEN. Lisze is also the illustrator of TOOTS THE CAT, written by the well-known poet, Karla Kuskin.

After receiving her MFA from Cal Arts, she had a career as an animator before turning to writing and illustrating children’s books full time. She has coordinated illustrator events for the SCBWI (Working Illustrators Retreat and Illustrators Day), taught at UCLA Extension, and is an experienced speaker. Lisze lives in Pasadena, CA with her husband, three sons, and assorted pets.
