Announcing the 2019 Emerging Voices Winners


Nicole GreenFatou Hymes, and Sahtinay Issac are the three talented winners chosen for the 2019 SCBWI Emerging Voices Award.


Fatou Hymes won for JINX, a middle grade novel about an African boy whose magical powers cause trouble in his village.


Nicole Green describes her winning contemporary YA manuscript ENVY as “a sinister twist on The Parent Trap”, about a teenage con artist who catfishes her long lost twin.


Sahtinay Issac won for LOOKING FOR THE EID MOON, a picture book introducing children to the Muslim holidays Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha.


The winning manuscripts will be made available to select agents and editors via a secure website.Green, Hymes, and Issac will also each receive free tuition to the SCBWI Summer Spectacular and a manuscript consultation with an agent or editor.


The On-The-Verge Emerging Voices Award is part of the SCBWI’s ongoing effort to foster underrepresented voices in children’s publishing.This is made possible through the generosity of Sue and Martin Schmitt of the 455 Foundation.

The 2020 winners will be announced in Spring of 2021.
