Research / Children's Book to be turned into script for a play
« Last post by pat-stemper-vojta-2 on March 11, 2023, 05:04 PM »
My children's book was accepted by a local theater group to be used in their Summer Theater Camp. The Artistic director wants me to contact a filmmaker/screenwriter he knows so that we can collaborate on turning my book into a script. I spent some time doing it myself and I'll have to see if it's what he wants.
***My main questions are: Does anyone have any experience with this and how much I should be monetarily compensated- as there has been no mention of payment as of yet. I did send the director an email asking  this question.
***Next question is: If someone else creates the script- Who does the script belong to?
***If I create the script and they offer changes and suggestions only- Do I own the script?
***Do I need to get a copyright for the script?
Thanks so much for your help-
Pat

Julie, I recall that too. I submitted a year or two ago.

I haven't looked at this year's guidelines, but just a warning to check first - I think I remember in previous years that this comp required exclusive submission for the duration of the contest.

I actually submitted an entry, but had to email Vivian to find the right place to post. She was very gracious about it. Most of the entries I read tended to be aimed at the PB set and were quite lyrical. Mine definitely wasn't. It has been fun to participate in this, and I appreciate Vivian's efforts.

And I missed the deadline--but for a very good reason. My son made an unexpected trip home last weekend and it was a whirlwind. Fun times.

Amy, I'd check with your local PD, but if I were writing a first draft before I got that done, I'd write it that they have to actually be let out. I think they're disabled so there's no way to "pop" it open.

Katie, why am I not surprised you were in a town's citizens' police academy?? :D
The first night I asked whether, in an emergency, they could use a taser as a defibrillator. The officer gave his captain a helpless look. The captain looked to the chief. The chief gravely shook his head no. They remembered me after that.  :nanana
