The Blueboard
is Streamlining has Streamlined!
After 17 years, it's time for some serious housecleaning here at the Blueboard. In the coming weeks, administrators will be restructuring the board to make it more user-friendly and up-to-date. We'll be deleting obsolete boards, combining others, and eliminating services duplicated on the SCBWI website. For more information on SCBWI, https://www.scbwi.org/
We won't be closing the board while we do this, so don’t worry if things seem to disappear before your eyes. When we’re done, the Blueboard will be much more compact, easier to navigate, simpler to use, and just as friendly and helpful as before.
If you have questions about these changes, ask them here. If you experience any difficulties during this transition, use the Contact a Moderator link at the top of the page and one of us will be happy to assist you.

So exciting!
Thanks for all you do.

You are welcome, Ree. We anticipate a much easier-to-navigate and friendlier board when we are done with this huge task, but at the same time, we plan to keep the important, up-to-date information that everyone wants and needs.
-
Sounds exciting! Hope in this new version we can also a section that stores helpful information in current blueboard.
-
Thanks, Verla!
-
Maybe when I see the "cleaned up" board I'll be inspired to carry it over to my clutter, or maybe I'll just enjoy the fruit of your work and say a big Thank You for doing it.
-
Very exciting. Can't wait. :)

Yay!

Verla,
I hope this will lead to a lot more use. I try to promote the Blue Boards with our members, but it's a bit discouraging when people click through and see forums that haven't been posted in regularly. I'd love to get the critique connections type areas working more actively, since we have lots of members looking for critiques, more than we can keep up with in our local crit groups.
Thanks so much!

Excited to see the upcoming Blueboard update! Curious to find out if the Graphic Novel/GN section will be disappearing? Or if that will be merged into something else? I was looking for that section and couldn't find it.

Graphic Novels won't be disappearing. We are working now to figure out the best place for it. Possibly in the Illustrator section somewhere....
-
Thank you, Verla!
-
Cool, I like this board but often feel overwhelmed. Streamlining might well help. Thanks for taking on what must be an enormous task.

Will there still be a home for translation on (in?) the Blueboard? SCBWI now has translator members in 66 regions. Thanks for all you do!
-
Thank you for all your efforts to make this a useful and very important tool for all of us! Especially now when communications are mostly online.... I appreciate you!

Hi Avery, Let me get back to you on this. I'm looking into it.
-
Thank you!
-
Is there still a spot for work-for-hire posts? Thanks!
-
Hi SC -- it looks like right now that Board is under a section that is only accessible to those who are SCBWI members.
-
Thank you for your reply!

Hi all, Curious what the latest is on a Translation board? Translation will be the topic of one of the Digital Workshops this fall, and a Translation board is just the sort of place where now, I would hope to spread the word about it!

Question,
Do SCBWI members have a separate board with more categories? I'm not a member, but really do love these boards and don't want to miss anything.
Ree

Avery, I know Rebecca was going to look into it, but the SCBWI office has been closed due to the virus, everyone's working remotely, and it has been difficult to reach the right person. Admins are having a Zoom meeting Friday afternoon US time and we might know more after that. For now, I suggest for now that you post in SCBWI General Topics and be very specific in your subject line.

Yes they do, Ree.

Thanks for the update! Really appreciate the consideration and time especially in this challenging season.

Thanks, Verla, and Admins and Mods!

Thanks, Verla!

Thanks for all the hard work being done on the redesign of the site. However, I cannot find a response category. Is that gone?
-
Do you mean response times? Yes, that is gone. We had to cut the Blueboard down a great deal, per SCBWI requirements.
QueryTracker, https://querytracker.net , does a much better job tracking agents and publishers than we ever could, even at the free level. If you have questions about magazine response times, it's fine to post that in Nonfiction & Magazines. https://www.scbwi.org/boards/index.php?board=290.0
-
I can't seem to find the forum for critiques. If anyone can guide me there, I'd appreciate it.
-
Find/Join Critique Groups is here. https://www.scbwi.org/boards/index.php?board=127.0 .
Note: a "group" can be ongoing or very temporary, and as small as one other person or as many as offer to provide feedback.
-
I can't seem to find "What did you blog about today?" Is this something you're working on or did you eliminate it?
Thanks for all your hard work.
-
Hi Barbara -- What Did You Blog About Today is now its own thread in this board:
https://www.scbwi.org/boards/index.php?board=291.0
Thanks for asking!
-
Thanks, Dina!

Any chance you’ll be adding more back posts to Ask a Lawyer? I’m finding reading through what’s there incredibly helpful and would love more.

Every question that's been asked is there. If you can't find what you're looking for, it's because no one has asked it yet. :)

Huh. Thanks. The oldest post there refers to older posts, so that’s why I thought there must be more.

We actually don't handle the Ask a Lawyer board. That is run strictly by the SCBWI literary attorney. She approves and answers posts, but does not remove posts. (I am assuming she has not seen legal reason to do so.)

The old posts referred to were from the original SCBWI board and were never ported to the Blueboard. Originally, they had planned to do so, but something changed that. I can't recall if it was a tech issue or what.

Got it. Thanks.

I went to the main SCBWI page looking for a link to the Blueboard but could not find it. I had to navigate to my home page to get to the forums and then the Blueboard. Too bad it is so hard to find. In my "Monday Mingle" sessions with the New England chapter, most members do not seem to know about the Blueboard.
-
I've been a member of the "Blueboards" from before it was a part of SCBWI, and I agree; most SCBWI members don't have a clue about this valuable resource.
-
If you scroll all the way down the main page, Discussion Boards is under additional resources.
