Title: Inspiring Quotes
Post by: Verla Kay on July 21, 2004, 11:40 AM
Sometimes, a quote just jumps out and really inspires.  Here's one that does that for me:

"Good morning.  This is God.  I will be handling all your problems today.  I will not need your help.  Have a good day."

:-)   What's your favorite religious quote?

"Let not they left hand know what thy right hand doeth."

My mother, bless her soul, practised this until the day she died -- it was not just a quote, she lived it.  I only know because of all the things people told me after she died.  When I was 12, I read Magnificent Obsession by Lloyd C. Douglas (which is based on this sentence in the Bible) and I still have to read it every 5 yrs or so....

This one always made me laugh, but it is so true, and really stops me every now and again when I get too sure in myself of just who God is.

"God created man in his own image, and man has been returning the favor ever since."  Mark Twain

Vijaya, that is a lovely verse, and I love your story behind it.

There's only one difference between a wise person and a fool. A fool has no wish to better himself.

I like this one. We can make decisions all we want but it seems to me much of the control we believe we have is an illusion because it's ego based and the ego is an illusion. Higher powers don't have such problems. ;D

I don't know, Tom- for something that is an illusion, the ego sure causes a lot of problems.  ;)

Here's the really hard one to get your head around. The problems are an illusion.

I guess we'll agree to disagree there, heh.

Although, I guess I agree with you to a point.  In the long run, the problems are meaningless, except in what kind of a person they help you become.  But I differ with you in that I believe in the absolute, concrete reality of this world/plane and everything in it, the seen and unseen, even though it is just a flawed shadowland of what is to come.

I should really get back to  :writing3: .

This is cool have not been here for a while and look what I miss, everything and everyone I love u all, this is my inspiring message and qoute and then I'll say my favorite:

When Earth was created and our Mother's and Father's were ready to have children, but before our birth, God, our father in Heaven had an idea before anyone was created, God, himself had an idea of creating each unique soul to his purpose, and your unique creative soul was created by God's love to be sent to Earth to fulfill his mission. Do you know what it is? If not. Ask. For we were all born with a purpose.

Elaina

Okay now my favorite qoute that I love is: We live by faith, not by sight / from Corth. 5:7 That saying always has me thinking.

Don't close your eyes.
This is your life.
Are you who you want to be?
This is your life.
Is it everything you dreamed it would be
when the world was younger
and you had everything to lose?

Switchfoot

This bit keeps rolling around inside me.

But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.  -- from James 1:6

When long and steep the path appears or heavy is the task, Our Father says "Press on my child, one step is all I ask." -- from Our Daily Bread

This quote may not sound as religious as others, but it is one of my favorites.  And it is something I remind myself of often.

"No other success can compensate for failure in the home."

I can't remember the author.  But my dad, who had a big-wig job in the government, had that framed and hanging in his office.  He always got a lot of comments on it.

One that I listen to daily in my car is from a chorus of a favorite song of mine...

"I will hold my head high
Lift my hands to the sky
Rise above all who try
to bring me down.......

....I wonder if my problems are too small,
Then I look back and realize
All your pain and sacrifice
and how you suffered for us all."

Third Day?  Love their music!

How about this one by Third Day also...

Sometimes I wonder why You even loved me
and why You ever chose to call me child
Then I remember
It's by Your sacrifice
I can say that I am YOURS and You are mine

Blessings

Okay, I'm done.  Continue on with the thread!    :writing3:

One of my favorite (I have  many) quotes is:
"Whatever you're full of spills out when you're bumped." It's an old Indian proverb. I heard Ravi Zacharias quote it once. I love it.

I also love Third Day, Switchfoot, and Jars of Clay. (I'm going to see Jars tonight, and Switchfoot is coming to our local fair this summer.)

els,
I don't know if he's still on the radio. I heard him on some TV show promoting his book, "Recapture the Wonder," when it first came out. (I have the book, but haven't read it yet. I've been too busy reading kids' books.) I just really loved that quote, and try to live by it as much as I can, but being human and all...

I don't know R.C. Sproul. Where can I find out more about him?

Sorry, this is sort of long, but this song by Casting Crowns is great.  I listen to it everytime I have doubts about my talents. .etc.  I need to listen to the Lord when it comes to me.  He is the author of my life, after all!  Enjoy!

Oh what I would do to have the kind of faith it takes to climb out of this boat, again, and onto the crashing waves
To step out of my comfort zone into the realm of the unknown where Jesus is, and He's holding out His hand
But the waves are calling out my name and they laugh at me, reminding me of all the times I've tried before and failed
The waves, they keep on telling me time and time again, "Boy, you'll never win, you'll never win"

But the voice of truth tells me a different story, the voice of truth says do not be afriad
And the Voice of truth says, "This is for My Glory, " out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of truth.

Oh what I would do to have the kind of strength it takes to stand before the giant, with just a sling and a stone
surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors shaking in their armor, wishing the'd have had the strength to stand
But the Giant's calling out my name and he laughs at me, reminding me of all the times I've tried before and failed
The giant keeps on telling me time and time again, "Boy, you'll never win, you'll never win"

But the stone was just the right size to put the giant on the ground, and the waves, they don't seem so high when you're up and looking down,
I can soar with the wings as eagels when I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus singing over me!

But the voice of truth tells me a different story, the voice of truth says do not be afriad
And the Voice of truth says, "This is for My Glory, " out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of truth.

I was blessed to go to a Casting Crowns concert at a Youth Day at a Church in SC.  WOW. Awesome song. How about "Who am I?"
I sang that at my daughter's christening.

My fave line is "Whom shall I fear? Whom shall I fear? For I am YOURS! I am YOURS!"I will be singing those songs all day, Bec.  Thank you for the blessing!  :jump

Hello Everyone,

I'm quite new to this site and am enjoying reading all these old threads.  This is a good one, so I'll add some song lyrics, too, in this case a hymn. I first heard it sung by Rich Mullins on his "The World As Best As I Can Remember It, Vol. 2" album.  The words are by Fanny Crosby, one of the most famous hymn writers of all time.  She was blind from the time she was a baby and said of her blindness: "It seemed intended by the blessed providence of God that I should be blind all my life, and I thank him for the dispensation. If perfect earthly sight were offered me tomorrow I would not accept it. I might not have sung hymns to the praise of God if I had been distracted by the beautiful and interesting things about me.

All the way my savior leads me;
What have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt His tender mercy,
Who thro' life has been my guide?
Heav'nly peace divinest comfort,
Here by faith in Him to dwell!
For I know whate'er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well;

All the way my Savior leads me;
Cheers each winding path I tread,
Gives me grace for ev'ry trial,
Feeds me with the living bread;
Tho' my weary steps may falter,
And my soul athirst may be,
Gushing from the Rock before me,
Lo! a spring of joy I see;

All the way, my Savior leads me;
Oh, the fullness of His love!
Perfect rest to me is promised
In my Father's house above:
When my spirit, clothed immortal,
Wings its flight to realms of day,
This my song thro' endless ages:
Jesus led me all the way.

Ooh! Good one, Donna!  Thanks!  I need to be reminded of that since I hope my book will become a ministry and it's so discouraging when rejection comes!  As soon as I post this, I'm going to jot that one down and put it on my computer so I can stare at it every day! (That's where I have the one I posted!) :yup

I don't know who wrote this, but it is a song that truly inspires me...

I want to be a window to His love,
So when you look beyond, you will find Him
I want to stand so straight and tall
that you won't notice me at all
And through my open door,
He will be seen

A window to His love, a doorway to the truth
A bearer of the message He'd have me bring to you
And with each passing day, I want to fade away
'Till only He, can be seen
and I've become a window to His love.

Welcome, Elzbelz!  Enjoyed the post! The one I'm thinking of today and all yesterday is 2 Corinthians4:7-9!
"But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us.  We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed..."

Thank God that Paul didn't have to deal with agents and editors! :dr

I hope this will help someone else as it helped me.  When I wondered if I had at last found my book topic, I fasted but didn't tell anyone, and then prayed, as I had learned from Dr. Charles Stanley.  I didn't want to write it if it wasn't from God.  So when I finished praying, I stuck in a fingernail and opened my Bible there.  The first verse I saw was Mark 9:23, which is the verse in my signature below.  "If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes."  At first I was elated, but then I cried when I realized it all hinged on my faith, "IF you can believe."  I didn't know if I had enough faith.  I cried, "Help me, Lord!".  Then I read the next verse in awe.  I wasn't the first person to have that reaction.  Mark 9:24 reads: Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”

Well, it did take a lot of faith, but what I read that day came true, and the proof is to the left--my book.

A stop-and-thinker:  "We don't see things as they are; we see them as we are."

And a funny one:  "Oh, Lord, let my words be sweet and tender, for tomorrow I may have to eat them."

A friend told me about the slogan of a garbage collection company:

You are what you can't get rid of.

I try to remember that when I hold on too tight to things that aren't important -- and when I'm tempted to let that which really matters slip through my fingers.

A recent favorite from a country song--"If you want to hear God laugh, tell him your plans."

And another from a Clay Walker song--

Why do I feel like you hear these prayers of mine
when so many ought to be ahead of me in line?
When you look down on me,
can you see the good through all the bad?
These are just a few questions I had.

Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us.
We ask ourselves, "Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, handsome, talented and fabulous?"
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing elightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us.
It is not just in some; it is in everyone.
And, as we let our won light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

--Generally attributed to Nelson Madela, but I read somewhere that he was quoting Marianne Williamson

These are wonderful, thanks all for sharing.  Here's mine:

"Even the Goddess of Learning is still learning."
-- Brahamand Swamigal

I love this quote.  It makes me feel like it's okay to keep going when I feel I've messed up real bad (with my career, my children, my life, my children...).  It lets me go a little easier on myself because if the Goddess is still learning, it must mean that she's a little imperfect, too, just like me.  And that's okay, as long as I keep learning.

The other day, I sullenly looked at my (growing) list of "declines" from editors.  I read that quote and looked back at my list.  I decided then that I wanted to take a different approach to these declines.  I decided that instead of rejections, these were signposts from the Great Spirit, leading me right to the perfect editor for me  ;D

Erin S - I love your father's quote about family. One of my favorites is:

"Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4 (and another)

"Tho the fig tree does not blossom, and there are no fruit on the vines, tho the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, tho there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls (in other words - no contract in the mail??) YET I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior."
Habbakkuk 3:17
