Which do you consider the funniest picture books ever published?

My top three: The Shrinking of Treehorn by Florence Parry Heide, Spinky Sulks by William Steig, and Horton Hatches the Egg by Dr. Seuss.

Golly, it's hard to pick, but off the top of my head, I did like Suddenly! by Colin McNaughton and Click, Clack Moo by Doreen Cronin.

I just read two books to 5th graders for character study mini-lessons (to identify how characters change from beginning of story to end) and two that ellicited lots of giggles even at this age were Kevin Henkes' LILLY'S PURPLE PLASTIC PURSE and CHESTER'S WAY.

I adore The Paper Bag Princess by Robert N. Munsch.  Most of his picture books are absolutely brilliant!

The Miss Nelson Books and Skippy Jon Jones because of their clever plotting, unexpected endings and how the words and art are so happily married.

And altho it is not a picture book, I love Roald Dahl's The Enormous Crocodile.

Some of Steig's do this too. (His works are a little more profound.)

My second-grader just brought home Doctor DeSoto by William Steig from his school library. I had never read it before and we both thought it was hysterical!

I'd have to second (or third) the Scaredy Squirrel.  Just bought that one for my daughter and I don't know who cracked up more, me or her!
