Last week I received a reply to an email I sent, and was told they're in the second round of judging. The message also mentioned that if you haven't received an official "no" from them, this means you are in the second round!  It finished with, "We will notify everyone soon."

FYI, back in early February, I received a rejection letter for the contest. I decided to take my finished ms and try to get it published elsewhere. I'm happy to report that I was successful in doing so. My entry was written as a NF piece, which might have hurt my chances in the contest. Anyway, the ms was published several weeks ago in Paranormal Underground Magazine and I actually got paid for it! So if anyone falls short on getting into the book, try what I did. Good luck .

Several people mentioned getting rejections right around the time of the Winter Conference.

I checked in with SCBWI a couple of weeks ago. It's my understanding that the remaining entries are in the hands of the publisher, but it's taking longer than originally thought to get the final decisions.
