Am writing a paper on the "privilege of yearning," showing the power of not having MCs get what they want.  But I need an example of one  or two of books where the MC simply gets what he/she wants, preferably a title where this makes for an unsatisfying read.  Am using Pink (Nan Gregory), My Best Friend (Mary Ann Rodman), Every Cowgirl Needs a Horse (Rebecca Jannie) and Each Kindness (Jacqueline Woodson) as examples where MC doesn't get what he/she wants (sometimes getting a substitute, sometimes not.)

If you forgive a bit of shameless promotion, CINDER EDNA shows both cases. Both Cinder Edna and Cinderella get what they want (the two princes). In the case of Cinder Edna, she chooses wisely, and gets an interesting husband who makes her happy. In the case of Cinderella, she gets the husband she wants too--but she's not quite as happy with the results.

I?m not sure if this is a relevant example, but

PAPER BAG PRINCESS by Robert Munsch

I think the whole book is driven by her yearning but when she does get what she wants (sorta), she decides it's not for her and leaves.
