No Business Like Shoe Business

Discussion started on

I'm writing a story about creepy crawlies who need to get shoes, so I have two questions:
what expensive footwear companies are there?
What are the most uncomfortable shoes you can get?

Hope you're walking well!
Thanks, TE.

Thundering, I don't know about shoe companies except for Nikes or Addidas but the most uncomfortable shoes are high heels. I don't know how women dance so beautifully in heels. I've not owned a pair for 20 yrs.

(Ballet) pointe shoes are torture. But that's probably far too specific!   ;D

I bet a Google search will answer both of these, but consider what kinds o shoes kids will have heard of. Most won't know brands beyond sneakers. Any shoe that does not fit well can be very uncomfortable.

Designer dress shoes are probably the most expensive, but the name of what is fashionable can change with the season so it might not be a good idea to use a specific name. Super high stiletto heels must have been invented by someone who wanted to torture women. I'm too tall to wear them, but even looking at them makes me cringe.

Just to pick up on that: my username is derived from an elephant who aspires to become a ballerina.

There are shoes that look uncomfortable that aren't: e.g. wooden clogs or geta.

There are high pumps like Jimmy Choo's that kids wouldn't know.

There are crocs -- that should never be worn in public

Birkenstock, Steve Madden, Doc Martens -- but nothing especially kid friendly or outrageous.

Actually, more than any other shoe, I hate Uggs. No support at all.

Sonya, do they hurt even when you're not standing on your toes? Though I'm no dancer, I love pink ballet flats.

Thanks. Actually, picking up on the name of this thread:
Bear in mind this is about a centipede:
Eddie's 100 Steps to Success or "No business like shoe business".
I'm going to write it regardless: just to get back in the mode.

Have fun with it, Fiona. I remember a book about a centipede who lost his ability to walk because he started thinking too much about his feet. Sometimes, writing is like that for me. Singing too--if I have to wrack my brain too much I get mixed up. Hence the value of practice.

If that were the case, am I not bordering on plagiarism?

Nope. Because ideas are not copyrightable. Your execution will be your own unique way of telling the story.
