It was suggested to me by a previous agent to include some illustrations in my chapter book query for agents. He thought it would help achieve my vision, although it’s not standard to do so.  This would be just to obtain an agent and not illustrations used for the book. I hired an illustrator and am about done. Now I’m rethinking the whole thing. Anyone have any thoughts about that?

Your instincts are spot on. Unless you were the illustrator, I don't think this was the best advice. You should be able to describe your vision in an introductory statement or with art notes if necessary. Editors and art directors are very good at choosing the right illustrator for the story's success.

Thanks so much. I'm freaking out a little bit after months of illustration work with this artist.  This book is humorous and needs a lot of illustrations, some of which are pretty offbeat. Argh...I trusted this advisor but now, I just don't know. I just don’t want it tossed right off the bat!

There are few publishers that do take work done by teams, but it is rare, and I've never heard of an agent doing it. I'm sorry this has happened to you. I'd research every agent carefully and decide if they might be open to this. Also, perhaps your advisor will be open to it. If they are reputable, you can say you took their advice in your letter.
