Glad to see you've reached a resolution!

I just re-read the thread and wanted to make a couple of comments that may benefit anyone reading through it for help in a similar situation.

First, they describe themselves as a "full-service publisher." That's an odd choice of words, and not what I would expect an established trade publisher ("trade" means they publish books for bookstores, and usually also for libraries) to use. It's more a term used by companies that offer "services" but not the actual trade model. At this point you've investigated them and are satisfied, but others should know this: find out what this means, if a company uses it.

Second, someone helpfully posted a link to my site, but unfortunately it went to my long-inactive blog. So here is a link to the actual home page of my site, The Purple Crayon: https://www.underdown.org/

Thanks!

Thanks!

I think the title of the genre defines it: children that age are more (from my experience) into rhythm & repetition. I've always written in narrative & if a child doesn't know the meaning of a word, they'll ask: they are inquisitive little beasts.

Several of you mentioned "checking in" or getting rejections, etc... Is there a particular person to do so with or a list of long/shortlisted somewhere or should we assume no news is good news? I haven't heard anything, but it's possible I suppose something went into SPAM and I didn't see it., but magazines are starting to look for October content, so while I'm happy to wait, also if I did miss a rejection I might want to send it elsewhere.

The  Author's Guild it is! I've located the Phoenix Chapter of the Guild and will be contacting them shortly, along with my SCBWI Chapter RA. Thanks for your suggestions.

The Authors Guild was great in providing a comprehensive review of my most recent contract. I also worked with publishing attorney Mary Flower. She is highly experienced, with reasonable fees and smart, helpful suggestions that for the most part the publisher was willing to accept.

A friend of mine uses her, but I always thought she was in NY. I guess the contracts are usually subject to NY law because this is where the companies are.
