My daughter-in-law needs some recommendations for Hi-Lo Books for 8th graders. Does anyone have some suggestions?

Saddleback Education has a whole catalog full. I'm not sure if they sell retail though. There seems to be a good variety of topics and reading levels as well as interest levels.

I would have her try some middle grade or YA novels written in verse.
Orca publishing also used to do Hi-Lo books, but I don't think they were very well written, IMO.

I updated this in June of last year but it has some publishers who do hi/lo (well, who were doing them in June). I just copied and pasted this from my list so it has notes about selling them series. I know that's not relevant to this discussion.
Abdo/Spellbound
http://www.abdopub.com
– series are usually all by same author and MOST are actually pitched by the author. Books have four chapters and right around 1000 words with high interest level topics.
Blake Education
http://www.blake.com.au/Hi-Lo-Fiction-s/2286.htm
-- genre novels (3rd gr level), not presently adding to their line but it might be a company to watch.
Capstone
http://www.capstonepub.com
– publishes hi/lo novels in series (3rd grade reading level)
High Noon Books
http://www.highnoonbooks.com/
-- publishes genre fiction for extremely struggling readers (like 1st grade leveled text). Website has great samples.
Ransom Books
https://www.ransom.co.uk/
Ruby Tuesday Books
https://www.rubytuesdaybooks.com/pages/contactUs.html
presently has one hi/lo series.
Saddleback
http://www.sdlback.com/
urban teen novels (3rd grade reading level)

Thank you so much for you replies. I will send all this information to my daughter-in-law. I think this is a corner of the market that is under supplied, and there is a real need.

For those of us who are not familiar with this terminology, what are "Hi-Lo" books?

"Hi-Lo" stands for high interest, low reading level. These books are targeted to older kids who read at earlier elementary levels for various reasons, but the content is meant for the higher age level of the intended readership.

I've read several titles in the Orca Soundings imprint, and I think they would really suit teen hi-lo readers.

Nancy, hi-low books have a low (ie: younger) reading level, but are high-interest books meant to grab the attention of older kids who aren't reading at their age level yet. (It would be easier to understand if they'd call them "high-low" books.)
