One of my favorite books of all time is The House on Hackman's Hill by Joan Lowery Nixon.  It was the first book I ever read that scared me so much I couldn't sleep that night.  More than that, it was the first book that really made me feel what the characters were going through and that's why I hold it at the top of my list.

Mine is Because of Winn-Dixie, by Kate Dicamillo. It's the book that first inspired me to write a middle-grade novel.

Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen. It's the only book I've ever read that I can read and reread and never seem to get tired of.
