Title: PBs about wild girls?
Post by: sarah-garcia-morgan on November 01, 2018, 10:44 AM
Hi!

I’m wondering if anyone can think of a PB or even a storybook about wild girls- think Peter Pan’s Lost Boys, but girls.  I’ve come across a few that have a female MC with wildness as a main theme (Wild by Emily Hughes,  Moon by Alison Oliver, Wild Child by Jeanne Willis), but I can’t think of any with a pack of girls.

Thanks,
Sarah

I think that's a terrific idea.  You should write it.  :)

If you need an illustrator... I love illustrating middle grade.  :)

Not really 'wild' but what about sassy girls like Junie B. Jones or Beverly Cleary's Ramona? Or Lilly in Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse?

Oh, I'd love to illustrate something like that.  Keep me in mind if you decide to self-publish and need an illustrator.  :)

Not sure if it's what you're after, but I consider my character Grimelda to be a wild girl. She is very messy and stubborn and lives on her own even though she's a child (because she's a witch). The sequel features some female neighbors, as well. It's a mostly female town. Just throwing it out there in case it's helpful. Sounds like you have a very fun concept.

Thank you Stephanie and Diana.  Those sound like some fun reads (especially your books, Diana)- but it does sound like perhaps a cohesive group of wild girls has not really been done- at least it’s not coming to mind easily.  Hmmmm
