Hi there!

I submitted my proposal to a publisher who is accepting children’s book with illustrations. They requested only 3 pages of the book. Once they reviewed my 3 pages, they requested to see the entire manuscript to make sure the text isn’t too challenging.

I am open to making  changes for them, in hopes they accept it. Is it appropriate to tell them, when I respond, that I am open to making changes? Or do I send it, and wait for them to tell me if they suggest any changes?

This is my first book to publish, so this is all a new, wonderful and exciting  learning experience. Thank you in advance for insight and advice.

I'd wait to see what they say. Publishers assume authors will be willing to make changes to their stories. Good luck!

I am not an author/illustrator so I might be missing something, but this seems very unusual to me. I rarely hear of "proposals for PBs." It is pretty typical to send the entire manuscript when submitting to publishers, well, at least when its text only. If they do offer on your book, be sure to research the publisher thoroughly before you commit. If they ask for $, that is NOT typical.

I was thinking the same as dkshumaker. 3 pages could easily be just 30 words out of a 400 or so word manuscript. Perhaps because they asked for a proposal, then wanted to check the text to be sure it isn't "too challenging", this is an Educational/early reader book publisher?
In any case, agree that publishers assume the Author will work with the Editor assigned, to make any changes to text and art. You needn't mention your willingness.
