Hi all,

When formatting a picture book manuscript for submission, should you include suggested page numbers/breaks?

I recently heard a well-established author say just to include the text without pages, as the publisher will have their own ideas on how it should be broken up. Is that the case?

I'm wanting to submit for Walker Wednesday and can't find any info like that in their submission guidelines.

Apologies if I'm asking something that has been covered many times in the past, but I haven't been able to find it on the past few pages of the board.

Thank you in advance!

I never have, although I do use spacing to suggest page breaks. :)

Best of luck with Walker Wednesday!

:welcome Chenee. I only paginate if I'm asked to do so (I've worked with a few editors who like to see the possible layout from the beginning) but most prefer to see just the story without all the breaks. I don't know what Walker Wed is so I looked it up here: https://www.walkerbooks.com.au/News/News-Item-374  and it looks like they want a standard submission.  Good luck!

Hi Chenee,
While some (only a few in my experience) publishers like to see proposed page breaks indicated, Walker Aust is a standard format. Harold Underdown recently shared a link to his website with the basic guidelines. Here it is https://www.underdown.org/manuscript-format.htm
Good luck with your sub, from a fellow subber (also in Aust).
