I'm looking for recommendations for board books, cloth books, or bath books for babies. My six-month-old is mostly interested in chewing on books thus far, but still, I like giving him the language experience of being read to. I find that some books give me more to talk about with him than others. We love Nina Laden's PEEK A WHO and DADDY WRONG LEGS, the Jellycat KITTY TAILS book, and the MAISY concept books.

What are some books you've loved reading with babies?

Sandra Boynton's board books rock!  It's fun to go to a baby shower and watch someone unwrap them because all the parents start chanting!

My little one is 16 weeks old. There are several favorites for slightly different reasons. She really likes TEN LITTLE FINGERS AND TEN LITTLE TOES, I think because she can understand what the illustrations are. She smiles when I start the first page. She also really likes the illustrations in OLIVIA and PENGUIN SAYS PLEASE. Her dad and I like reading BEAR SNORES ON, GOSSIE, and CLICK CLACK MOO.

Seconding Anne Marie: you can't go wrong with The Boynton. Deborah Underwood's THE QUIET BOOK was released as a board book last year. I also think Eric Carle's books work very well in board book format.

My baby mammal is just 18months (this week).  Here are the board books we've LOVED so far:

When my grandson was six months old, he positively adored these board books, although I picked up the lap editions:

Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Eric Carle
Good Night, Gorilla by Peggy Rathmann

He also really enjoyed Where’s Walrus? by Stephen Savage, but it’s not a board book.  Here’s the link to a fun trailer:

These suggestions are awesome. Those heavily rhyme-y ones are going to be great. My little guy always grabs books out of my hands to chew on them or cruise around the room with them, so I usually end up reciting them from memory.

I love all of these suggestions. You might try This Tree, 1, 2, 3 (published by Albert Whitman) written by Alison Formento (me) and illustrated by Sarah Snow.

Also, Blueboarder Salina Yoon, has created several (dozens, I think) gorgeous, fun board and bath books.

I just wanted to come back here and say that we've bought at least fifteen of the books recommended here, and every one of them has been a favorite with us at some point.

We've become die-hard Sandra Boynton fans. My little guy (now fifteen months) says "wa-wa" whenever he wants us to read him a book, and we think it's because we've read "Moo Baa La La La" so many times that the title has become his word for reading. Kevin Lewis's "Chugga Chugga Choo Choo" is also an indispensable part of our day.

Anyway, thanks for the recommendations! (And I'm never opposed to hearing more.)

Ooh ooh, my bff Salina's Penguin books and FOUND have just come out in board book!

And yes to Sandra Boynton. Moo Baa LaLaLa and Doggies and Pajama Time were big favorites here.

Boynton's SNUGGLE PUPPY is a favorite around here with my now 13 month old. She also loves GOODNIGHT, GORILLA, Kevin Henkes' LITTLE WHITE RABBIT, and the Zooborn's alphabet book. Favorites change daily, though, and she's in a phase where she prefers to "read" them for herself more often than not. Oh, and let's not forget DK's WHO AM I? BABY ANIMALS. That's been a favorite for many, many months.

My now almost 8 year old LOVED the THAT'S NOT MY MONSTER book when he was a baby-toddler. It's got lots of cool tactile parts. I think it's from Usborne?  I remember there were other similar That's Not My...books. But he loved the monster one until it completely fell apart.

Oh, and speaking of monsters, we have a board book of THE MONSTER AT THE END OF THIS BOOK, that they still think is hilarious.
