The house didn't fall on me. It fell on my sister.

Can anyone suggest titles of PBs that don't travel the traditional beaten path (kid has problem, kid solves problem) and has an unusual theme, one not typically considered PB material?
Example: a mystical journey or experience.

I have a beautifully illustrated PB I found in a bargain bin called Moon Dog, by Helen Ward, illustrated by Wayne Anderson. It's from a UK publisher.
http://www.amazon.com/Moon-Dog-Helen-Ward/dp/1840118644/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464364569&sr=8-1&keywords=moon+dog+helen+ward
The copy off the back of the book says "As the man in the moon dozed in his comfortable chair, little Moon Dog sneaked out of the back door and into BAD company..." The bad company being fairies.

Maybe "Miss Rumphius" or one of my absolute favorites, "That Old Book Woman"
Also I guess unicorns are pretty common PB material but the way they're handled in Jane Yolen's "Where have the unicorns gone?" might fit your bill!

Thanks, all. Keep 'em coming!
(This was sparked because I've tired of going against my grain--my brain, apparently, is more wired for...uh...would I call it concept?--but need to read more of the books that sync with how my head works.)

There are a bunch of recent books that revolve around inanimate objects. Take the The Day the Crayons books. A Book with No Pictures is also non-traditional. No problem to solve.

Hi Arona,
How about Sylvia Liu's book, A Morning with Grandpa, which is about a grandpa and granddaughter sharing tai chi and yoga?
You might, also, find something in this article:

Good luck.

Thanks for more titles.
I've enjoyed the ones thus far, and have also found authors new to me.

Maybe Hats for Sale, or Three Hat Day. Bea and Mr. Jones. I think a lot of those old Reading Rainbow books were not "kid has problem/kid solves problem"
