The very first piece of writing I sold is now appearing in the October issue of Highlights. Over In the Mansion is a Halloween rhyme and Cheryl Mendenhall did a fabulous job of illustrations! Thank you, Cheryl and Highlights!

Thank you, Sue and Vijaya!

Sue, I subbed it 10/28/11, received a Bear Card on 12/5/11 and the contract on 1/12/12.

This last July I was so fortunate to attend one of the Highlights Writer's Retreats. During that time we visited the offices of Highlights and met all of the wonderful editors.  And right there, on their desks were those famous towering stacks of manuscripts that came in during one month! For reals!

Wow! That's a great timeline from sub to acceptance!  Congratulations!!!  The Highlights retreat must have been wonderful and how neat to see all the stacks of manuscripts waiting to be read!  I have to get to one of their retreats one day!

Looking forward to reading Over In the Mansion!

:grouphug2:  You are all so fantastic!  Thank you for your support and encouragement.

And, yes, anyone thinking about going to a Highlights Retreat --- do it! Make it happen! I've been to national conferences and they don't even come close to what Highlights offers.

The people there are great --- just like you Blue Boarders ---- a perfect match.

I finally saw your poem! Nicely done! What a fun Halloween poem.

And I just found out that I have a poem in the same issue! It's called the Grumpy Hiker. :)

Dear Bluies,  I've been away this week, but have to tell you how wonderful it is to read all your kind comments! Thank you! I received my author copies today and my husband's first comment was, "Honey, look! You are the centerfold!"  These are words I never thought I'd hear.

Be sure to catch Diana's super cute poem The Grumpy Hiker on page 15!

Stephanie and Diana, I loved your poems! Diana, I especially liked the creative ending in yours, and all the spooky/fun characters in yours, Stephanie.

We're all issue-buddies, 'cause I'm in there, too! (pages 7 and 36-37). Yay, BBers! :)

:yourock Stephanie, I'm taking a workshop at the Highlights barn this week on poetry, and today our group toured the Highlights office, and Editor Joelle Dujardin held up the current issue and showed off your poem as a great example of a traditional poem reworked!

:goldstar Sara, how cool! A double-feature! Great stories. You really draw the reader in right from the start.

 :coffee3: Cheers, issue buddies!

Stephanie, how funny! You're a centerfold! Maybe your husband will hang it in his locker. :)
