Title: Picture book with concepts
Post by: bruna-deluca on July 18, 2015, 12:45 AM
Hello all,

I'm a new member with a lot of questions.

I am polishing a manuscript that started out as a picture book but has turned into a picture book/concept book. It has a plot and a little twist. Is there anything I should be aware of?

Are concept books more difficult to sell? Are they usually written by illustrators? Are they mainly in-house?

 :help2 :thankyou

Bruna x

I have two concept books forthcoming and I'm not the illustrator, so they definitely sell. It just depends.

If your manuscript has a plot and a little twist, then I'd say you're on the right track!

Concept books are a harder sell (most of mine are work-for-hire), but as Diana says, it depends. My first concept/novelty book was picked up in the slush pile at Cartwheel/Scholastic. So send out your work. Good luck!

Thank you for replying.  It is heartening to hear success stories when do many odds seem stacked against you.

I've been trawling the blue boards for a few days and I've been feeling disheartened. motivated and everything in between x
