Picture Books (PB) / Formatting verse for picture book
« Last post by d-dzien on Yesterday at 08:33 PM »
Hi all, first time board user so apologies in advance if this topic has been covered.  I am formatting a picture book in verse.  I have found that I should be indenting each line with one tab.  My question is, if the line carries over into the next line , should it be indented further?  Should it stay in line with the rest of the verse?  Or maybe should it not be indented?  Any help is appreciated!!!

Thanks for the heads-up, Rebecca.

My experience has been that grant announcements are often delayed.

Does anyone know if results of the WIP award have delayed?  The guidelines page mentioned winners would be announced in early October.  I was also curious to know if the Cushman grant is typically announced at the same time.
Thanks

Great timing of your question. Darcy Pattison just wrote about it:  https://www.indiekidsbooks.com/p/working-with-pod-printers?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=cta   Her website is a great resource too: https://www.darcypattison.com/

Picture Books (PB) / Self Publishing PICTURE BOOKS
« Last post by otto-bulut on October 05, 2021, 08:54 PM »
Howdy! Can anyone direct me to a thread on self-publishing (POD) picture books specifically. It appears that the queries about PB POD are pushed over to the Self Publishing topic but there are some unique aspects of PB publishing. I like to think of PB's as art books and so am concerned with the quality and types of paper available for both page and cover. (Personally, I am looking for a heavy matte or low gloss paper.)
Anyone have any insights, suggestions or thoughts?

Graphic Novels / Re: Any Writing Courses?

Hi Susan.  There is a graphic novel course coming up in February from the Children's Book Academy.  I have attached the link here.
https://www.childrensbookacademy.com/2022graphicnovels.html

I have taken a course with them and found it worthwhile.  They even offer scholarships if you qualify.  That link is here.

I hope that helps.

Susan,

Sadly, you just missed a workshop that might have fit that bill from Janna Morishima of Janna Co., who is an agent who specializes in graphic novels. I'd suggest you find her and follow her on social media. I don't know what else she has planned.
