Just finished A CONFUSION OF PRINCES by Garth Nix.  A fun read but not up to the standards of SABRIEL, which is one of my favorites.

Also read YESTERDAY'S DEAD by Pat Bourke, a debut MG historical about Spanish flu in Toronto after WWI. Very well done.

I just finished Night Beach by Kirsty Eagar, and I LOVED it. I even sent the author a fangirl letter! It's a contemporary setting, but it has this real creepy gothic vibe to it. LOVE.

I started Queen of the Night by Leanne Hall yesterday. It's the sequel to her very cool debut This Is Shyness. It's set in the imaginary Melbourne suburb of Shyness, where night never ends. I'm enjoying it so far.

Obviously I'm on an Australian YA binge!

Just finished a book of short stories by Ann Packer. I had to take a break from kid lit for awhile. Her stories were good, but nothing quite compares to her novel, "The Dive from Clausen's Pier."

I just started Sara Wilson Etienne's HARBINGER and it's hard to put down. Took it into the bathtub, read during dinner, stayed up till 1 reading.

Do not let the cover steer you away. I didn't care for the cover and didn't feel it did the book justice, but that's my opinion. Ann -- I'd love to hear your thoughts on the cover.

I loved ANNA!! I had scary vivid dreams for a week after reading that book, but it was so worth it.

There's a sequel coming out this year sometime, and I will be reading it.

Shanny, I read the library's copy of Scorpio Races twice, and ended up buying my own copy so I could make notes in the margins. SUCH an awesome book!!

I am sort of embarrassed to say that I read Scorpio Races again, for the third time! Okay we went camping, at the ocean, and again, nothing else on my tbr pile appealed to me, and I'd just ordered Sweetly and it hadn't shown up yet.

Maggie, if you're out there, you are a genius. This time I took notes, just like Olmue. 

Now reading Matched by Ally Condie and eyeing S.R. over the top of the book!

Rachel, Hattie Big Sky is one of my favorite historical novels. I love the imagery and Hattie's journey.

Just finished a pretty edgy YA called The Knife and the Butterfly by Ashley Hope Perez. An amazing voice and concept for the novel and...well, I just can't say anything else or I fear I will give too much away.

This week I read Code Name Verity and The Wicked and the Just, back to back. They're sort of similar, in a strange way--both about war, both about girls who are...allies? friends? (I wouldn't exactly call Gwinny and Cecily friends. But their fate is bound together.) Also, both about what really happens in war, as opposed to a comfortable escape sort of book. Not for the faint of heart (although both very powerful).

I just finished Carolyn Mackler's THE EARTH, MY BUTT, AND OTHER BIG ROUND THINGS.  That was a great book.  I loved Virginia, felt for her, cheered for her, and really enjoyed watching her find her power.
