THE MINER'S DAUGHTER is now available!  I've been fortunate thus far with prepub reviews.  Kirkus called it a "a story that puts a human face on poverty, prejudice and dreams....a fine coming of age story."  And SLJ said it was an "excellent novel" with "fully realized characters."

So I can relax the TINIEST bit....

How cool for you, Gretchen! Then it should be hitting my store's shelves any minute...

I've got an ARC of The Miner's Daughter on the very top of my to-be-read pile. I'm catching up on my 2007 Newbery & Printz winners at the moment, but I'll let you know how I like it very soon.

Whew! I'm caught up...I think!  :faint:

Lots of good news lately! Congrats to everyone!

Sarah -- you have an ARC?  Wow.  Even as the author, I only got two!!!  :)

I'm really looking forward to your novel.  Unlike everyone else I know, I learned about Helen Keller's story not through the film or her memoir, but from a small children's paperback called HELEN KELLER'S TEACHER.  I found the parts about Annie Sullivan in Boston perhaps even more gripping than when she moves to Alabama.  A novel on this subject is a GREAT idea!

Susan, I know several girls who would be perfect for your book.  They LOVE horses.  THEY LOVE THEM.  (They're always telling me this.)  And they are still young enough that they still need a historical novel for their book reports.  Yours look perfect!

Good luck with it,
Gretchen

I was just looking through this thread before we leave for the U.S. this week so that I could order some "surprise" books for my kids to open when we get to grandma and grandpa's house, and I saw that people have included their anthologies...so here's mine!

http://www.amazon.com/Teacher-Miracles-Inspirational-Stories-Classroom/dp/159869135X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-2202262-2769611?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1182169429&sr=8-1

It's called Teacher Miracles: Inspirational True Stories from the Classroom, put out by the "Cup of Comfort people" (Adams Media).  My essay is the first one in the collection.

Happy Summer, everyone!  :EmoticonLickIceCream:

I'm caught up...had to start list #3!  :eek5: So far, this list has only three books, so if you want to be added, let me know. It seems like once school starts, Christmas is here before we can turn around. Plus, I'm hoping we are using this list for birthdays, too.

Here's a link to the new list:
