Title: New Dr. Seuss Stories Discovered!
Post by: pilonsc on April 08, 2011, 07:53 PM
7 new stories by Dr. Seuss were discovered and they're being published by Random House this fall. I'm a huge Seuss fan so I think that this is pretty exciting! :)

Here's the article with more info: http://www.cbc.ca/news/arts/story/2011/04/07/seuss-lost-stories.html

That is really great news. In my opinion, Dr. Seuss wrote the best read aloud books ever!  As a teacher and a parent, I read many of his books over and over and over again. I never got tired of them. I always have fun switching up on the rhythm and the pacing of the stories.  Its fun to watch kids  become so totally engaged that even the quiet kids love repeating the words out loud.
Thanks for sharing.

I read about this earlier, but no decision had been made about what to do with them. Glad to hear they're going to be published.

Yes, it's exciting.  But I'm trying not to get my hopes up that they'll measure up to his best work, since he and his publishers apparently made a conscious decision not to bring them out.  These aren't "lost" stories in the sense that they were somehow overlooked, or fell behind Geisel's desk and were unnoticed for decades.  As I understand it, they never made it into books because he was writing too much other stuff that was clearly better.  But if only as a student of the great writer, it will be great to see "new" work.

I didn't know that they weren't polished works, but agree it'll be interesting to see them. I wonder who's going to illustrate them - or maybe he did rough sketches to go with the rough work. I can't help being curious about whatever comes out. I loved Dr. Seuss and memorized several of his books by accident by reading them so many times.
