Best books on writing PBs?

Discussion started on

Hi guys, I have searched for a topic on this but couldn't find any, so hopefully it's ok that I have started a new one.
I was wondering if anyone could recommand a good book, or several books, about writing picture books? I have come across a book by Ann Whitford Paul, is it any good?

Many thanks
Yaara

Yes, it's the best one! There are also these:

Ann Whitford Paul Writing Picture Books
Linda Ashman The Nuts and Bolts of Writing Picture Books
Children’s Writer’s and Illustrator’s Market (updated each year)
Anne Lamott Bird by Bird
Elements of Style, Strunk and White

Agree that Ann Whitford Paul's book is one of the best for picture book writing. Linda Ashman's is very good as well for PB writing.

The other books that Jody mentioned are also awesome but for all writing. They are not "PB focused".

Freaky Funky Fish ( Running Press Kids, May 2021)
Tell Someone (Albert Whitman, October 2021)
Peculiar Primates (Running Press Kids, Fall 2022)

Awesome, thank you both so much for your help!

Starting on page 247 of SCBWI's "The Book," there is a list of excellent resource books. I have found Ann Whitford Paul's book to be invaluable!

This is probably my favourite.

I also like You Can Write Children's Books by Tracey E. Dils, but just for the writing craft sections. The publishing sections are very out of date.
