The list does serve as an historical record of sorts of our BB members' publications.  ::-)  :books :studia :books3

Fun to look at those first few pages, remember what we all were :writing3

Those links don't seem to be working.

Michael, I've checked most of them on this page and spot checked through p. 5. I got many more hits than misses. I see the thread dates back to 2005, and there are broken links on those older pages. The books may be out of print, or be available elsewhere for anyone who wants to search for them. The list does serve as an historical record of sorts of our BB members' publications.  ::-)  :books :studia :books3

Thank you everyone for your responses. I feel welcome here :)

I've already started writing and I'm being mindful of the word count and my word choices.

Ok, I emailed someone through McMillian and they forwarded my email to someone in charger of the book. This is what they said:

Hi, Natalie! I'm Rachel Murray of Godwin Books - it's so nice to e-meet you, and deepest apologies for the long delay in our response to your story for the Haunted States collection!

This year has been a bit of a whirlwind, and so it's taken us longer than we'd hoped to evaluate our wonderful submissions. We're still in the process of choosing the stories that will be featured in the collection (right now, our plan for publication is Spring 2023, in time for the Halloween season), but as soon as we're done, we'll notify each person whose work is selected. That will be before the end of the year.

Picture Books (PB) / Re: Character Arc/Message

Character arcs make the story is more satisfying. Otherwise there's a 'so what?' type of a feeling. But does every book have to have a lesson? No. Here's another post about structure: https://picturebookbuilders.com/2021/08/pick-and-commit-choosing-a-picture-book-structure/

When I read your post, I thought of Press Here. As David says, it's fun, doesn't have a character arc, but it does have a story arc.

I am all in favor of fun. I wish you good luck.

I think David is right. Your story should have "levels" or an arc (even if it's really mild or simple), but not all stories have character arcs. If, however, you have a character-driven story, it probably needs a character arc (again, even if it's mild). The younger the story, the more mild the character arc can be.

But there are all kinds of story structures for PBs. This great post by Tammi Sauer delves into the topic. https://taralazar.com/2012/11/07/piboidmo-day-7-tammi-sauer/
