Thanks! Is Early reader still a genre anyone is interested in publishing?

There's a bigger difference than just word count. Early readers are reader=child (possibly with an adult helping). PBs are reader=adult (at least for the first couple times :) )

Generally, PBs are under 500 words.

Picture Books (PB) / Length of PB?

Hi! I have stories that could be picture book or early readers and Im not sure how to determine which it is before I start illustrating. The first story I am focusing on is 1300 words. Is that too much for a picture book? Also, I understand the "Early Reader" category is dead, according to a recent post I saw on Sub It. I need direction and clarification. Suggestions?

I am willing to edit the stories down if needed. Afterall, isn't writing just more editing?

Thanks so much in advance

Picture Books (PB) / Re: Inspired by vs biography in PB

DK,

Thank you for the reply.  I'm considering writing a completely fictional story with similar characters and details, but I will also check out the fictionalized bio books you mentioned.  Perhaps that's another possibility.

Thanks again,
Sarah

Are you still planning on writing ABOUT the person or just a story that has similarities but different characters, details, etc?

I know there are PB Bios like THE OLDEST STUDENT, THE KITE THAT BRIDGED TWO NATIONS, etc. are fictionalized versions of true stories because the author couldn't verify everything and they explain that in the authors notes. But sometimes, many times, they are classified as nonfiction though technically they  would be historical fiction.

I don't know if this helps at all.

Hi everyone,

I've had a person in mind that I felt like is just perfect to have their story told as a PB for awhile now.  But I've hesitated to start.  Why?  Because they're still alive but not super well know , probably hard to access (minor royalty, rural, and far away) and PB bios are oversold atm anyway.  But it occurred to me today, that perhaps the best way to get the story out there would be to tell a fictional "inspired by" story instead and discuss my inspiration in an author note or something?  I would love to start researching fictional PBs that were explicitly inspired by real people/events.  Does anyone have suggestions of PBs to start reading?

Thanks,
Sarah

Have you contacted the RA for the British Isles region? I bet they know a lot. Contact info is on the region's page on the SCBWI website.

Hi Cherise,

Is this a self-published book? If so, let me know if you would like me to move this post to our self-publishing boards. You might get better answers there. . .

I need some help with publishing.  I want to promote my book in the UK.  I am reading that some bookstores in UK are not huge fans of Amazon.  I know that Ingram Sparks does not distribute to UK.  I would be curious if anyone here has distributed in the UK from the US and what your process was - I appreciate any advice you could offer.  It is a children's book - paperback and the story is about a town in England.  I am trying to figure out if I buy just one ISBN number for both UK and US?  Lots of questions before we proceed with publishing and printing I need answered.  Thank you
