SCBWI's Blueboard - A Message & Chat Board

Looking for a fantasy or similar MG series set!

Discussion started on

Hi everyone,

I feel that this has become an annual post...I am shopping for my ten year old nephew who loves to receive a box set of  a whole series. In the past I have given him/he has loved:

Percy Jackson
Harry Potter
Chronicles of Prydain
The Hobbit

(And of course I've given him a million single titles, but for Christmas his favorite is when I give him a box set series and I don't want to disappoint!)

THANK YOU FOR YOUR RECS!

Redwall? Artemis Fowl? Ingrid Law's Savvy books? Shannon Messenger's Keeper of the Lost Cities books? (That series is still ongoing, but my 10YO son likes it.)

Rick Riodan obviously had more sets than just Percy Jackson. His Magnus Chace (Asgard) series is well-liked. Brandon Mull has a couple sets: Fablehaven and Beyonders. Garth Nix's Keys to the Kingdom (although I did not like the ending).

The Unwanted is a huge set. And Wings of Fire is 5 books.

No idea if these sell as boxed sets or are even in print still.

Wrinkle in Time
Charlie Bone (might be a little older)
Lemony Snicket's A series of Unfortunate Events
Spy School
A Heroes Guide to Saving the Universe (I think that's the title of book one.)
Guardians of Ga'Hoole
How to Train Your Dragon
The Golden Compass
Eragon

And that's off the top of my head.

All of Linda Joy Singleton's mid-grade series. They are all filled with action, intrigue and mystery and many have been on reluctant reader lists.

Her latest is The Curious Cat Spy Club series.

John Flanagan's RANGER'S APPRENTICE series! I loved them as much as our son. He has a spinoff series now, too--the BROTHERBAND series.

This may be too obvious, but The Chronicles of Narnia with a copy of The Narnia Code by Michael Ward which explains so much about C S Lewis and what the Narniad is about.

If your nephew hasn't read A Series of Unfortunate Events yet then that one would be a lovely set! Although, I think it's hard to come across in stores. Might have to go the Amazon route
