I came across this very interesting article about the writer, Donald J. Sobol, of the Encyclopedia Brown mysteries. https://crimereads.com/encyclopedia-brown-and-the-case-of-the-mysterious-author/

I discovered them with my kids (my husband had read them as a child) and we all enjoyed these books very much. I didn't pay much attention to writers' lives at the time, but I loved what he said: “I am very content with staying in the background and letting the books do the talking,” I also love how he got into writing, thanks to a teacher who designed a course for a class of one! I still know a few teachers like these. God bless them!

Thanks for posting such an interesting article.  My children also loved Encyclopedia Brown.  I never saw the books at the bookstore, but our library had the series.

I wonder if an editor would be happy with him remaining so anonymous today, although the author of the Puppy Place books has successfully done the same. I think it would be harder for someone newer.

We love E. Brown in this house. My kids reread him periodically. We even baked brownies form the mystery cookbook. (10 stories all revolving around food and with ten recipes, one per story.)

We also love Sally. She even solves a mystery in one of the books.

Debbie, I've thought about this too...and I think in the end, what is always going to matter is the book, if they will be loved by children and the people who care for them.

Interesting. I never read Encyclopedia Brown. Will have to add that to my reading list. Also, I thought other people wrote the series toward the end. Did anyone else hear about the series having ghost writers?

I'd always enjoyed Encyclopedia Brown....and now knowing Donald J. Sobol is an introvert like me makes me appreciate him all the more.
