Aw. I have heard the story before about him drawing the ducks. I love his lifelike illustrations! He really "got" ducks.

I'll never forget that when it was my turn to read to my oldest's kindergarten class, I chose MAKE WAY FOR DUCKLINGS, and made coconut macaroon bird's nests with chocolate malted eggs inside for the snack.

Such a great book. My mom's favorite to read to my sister and me when we were little. When I went to Boston and saw the pond, I was so excited!!

One of my favorite things was being able to move into an apartment on Beacon Hill, just steps away from the Public Garden. I only lived there a year, but after a childhood of that book (living far away in Connecticut when I read it!), I was so happy to be able to visit those scenes daily. And, yes, have had more than a few pictures taken on or around those brass statues!

As a mom, now living in a suburb outside of town, I get a kick out of our trips to see the garden, the swan boats, etc., and take my kids' pictures there.

And, yes, I still have a very battered copy.
