Are there any Middle Grade topics or type of novels on the decline?  I am writing an ensemble mystery...think of the Hardy boys meet Shaggy and Scooby-Doo.  The gang will solve mysteries but in a way a bunch of 6th/7th graders would with silly humor.  The main character is going to have a special ability that will be complicated by some inner challenges tweens face.

This type of book could be on the decline now and back in style by the time you finish perfecting the manuscript and finding a publisher. The thing to do now is write the book you want to write as well as you can write it. Then get it critiqued, then worry about the the market. Books that are bought today won't be on shelves for two years. trends change in that time period.

Good luck with this.

I personally believe there will always be a demand for humor and action. Even when it's not the new, hot thing, it's a flame that draws the reader moths.
