Hi everyone, can anyone recommend a really good manuscript feedback service? Ideally in the UK but not essential. Thanks!

Have you tried to get a beta first? It can be difficult to connect sometimes, but it's all free. Some critique services can be expensive and that doesn't guarantee a book deal.
Maybe try a writing group? There's another forum here for that. Good luck with it!

Seconding Lisa's advice. I highly recommend getting a writing partner to swap stories with. You learn so much by receiving and giving critiques and once you form a table of trust, you have gained a writing friend too.
That said, our own mrh offers critiques on novels. See: http://www.marciahoehne.com/critiquing-and-editing.html Best of luck!

You might want to talk to you SCBWI regional advisor about options in your area. Most regions have some critique groups. And we do have a critique group matching area and a place to post a chapter on these boards.
As Lisa said, you're better off going as far as you can for free. You learn more that way and spend less. If you get a paid critique early, you'll have to get another based on your revision.
If you've already done critiques and are looking for an edit with an eye to self-publishing, you'll still likely be better off with a service in England because the British and US markets differ (though good writing is good writing.) That brings me back to your RA. Good luck.

I am looking for readers for my middle grade novel. I'm based in the USA, but I'd be up for an exchange if you are interested! You can learn more about me here: www.kateteves.com
Cheers!

I'm in need of a beta reader for my narrative nonfiction/memoir for middle grade starting with the first few chapters . Am open to sending the entire manuscript after that (53,000 words). Thank you.

Hi there, @lerg1!
I agree that joining a writers' group or exchanging manuscripts with others is also a great way to get input on your story, but if indeed you're looking for a paid critique, please give me a shout if I'm in Canada (not the UK) and I offer critiques of children's manuscripts, from picture books and chapter books to MG and YA novels. Please get in touch for more details: susanhughes@sympatico.ca. And here's my website page where you can find out a little more as well: http://www.susanhughes.ca/manuscript-critiques.
