I'm working on a story with a creative, free (and eventually), frustrated character similar to Little Critter and with the creative playful energy of Max in Where the Wild Things Are. Do any recently published books come to mind with little boys like this? I'm drawing a blank and looking for Mentor Texts.

You've tried Amazon children's books by searching "misbehaving" or "independent" or "stubborn," etc? Animal characters are often stand-ins for kids.
