A friend of mine wants to videotape herself reading a book for her one-year-old niece.

Do you have any book suggestions I can give her?

My kids loved Where is Baby's Mommy? by Karen Katz (I think). It's bright, colorful, and lift-the-flap.

Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb by Al Perkins has been a top favorite for all five of my kids.

Another favorite at that age is Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes by Mem Fox (I think) and Helen Oxenbury. But the illustrations are a great part of the story, so it depends how well your friend is able to show the pictures. And it's kind of interactive, too. A LOVELY book, though!

Oops by Sandra Boynton made my kids laugh out loud when they were toddlers. Other Boynton books (Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaur) are great, too. I often give them as baby gifts.
More More More Said the Baby by Vera Williams is a classic.
The Happy Man and His Dump Truck has features a dumptruck, smiling, waving, and animal sounds--perfect for a 1-year-old.

I've bought Sandra Boynton's Going to Bed Book for several babies. We had it memorized. Probably still do.
We had a large collection of her books and they are mostly worn out.

We also giggled over Good Night Gorilla. A lot.

My daughter loved "I am a Little Cat" when she was that age - really sweet story and nice big pages so it would be easy to see on videotape.

Newer faves of mine are Cowboy and Octopus and Shark vs. Train!

Goodnight Moon is a great one and the pictures would translate well to a video since they're so vivid, although you'd probably miss most of the little changes that go on from one page to the next.

Mr Brown Can Moo! Can You? by Dr Seuss was read over and over in our house. Also one of our own BBer's books, Apples Apples! by Salina Yoon. It has big flaps to lift up, so would be doable on video. She has tonnes of books for this age group. Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See? by Eric Carle and Bill Martin was also read over and over... although it kind of bored me to tears!

I'll second/third any Sandra Boynton book, also Each Peach Pear Plum by Janet and Allen Ahlberg, and Where is the Green Sheep? by Mem Fox and Judy Horacek.

A favorite for my daughter at that age:  Owl Babies   Great read-aloud!

ETA: I just watched that version and the baby owls sound a bit more pitiful and sad than in our read aloud.  We always made the youngest, in particular, sound kind of determined and shout-y.

Pat the Bunny. It's a sturdy, fun board book where the child can participate. "Pat Daddy's scratchy face." etc.
