Not sure if they're 12 or 13, but they're in 7th grade (the year you turn 13) in Gordon Korman's Hypnotists series.

I think a ton of MG has 13YO protagonists.

Since you specified age 13+ you're bordering on YA, and would find a lot of say, 14 and 15 year old characters in that category. Just sayin'
