Hi -
I just joined SCBWI recently and live in Florida. Wish I knew about this Conference sooner, looks like it will be a good time.
-
I just went to the www.SCBWIFlorida.com website and cannot find any information on it. I see a brochure for the conference in June, where can I find a brochure for the conference in January?
-
Here's a link to the pdf of their brochure: http://www.scbwiflorida.com/documents/SCBWI-FLmiami2014_21-web.pdf (http://www.scbwiflorida.com/documents/SCBWI-FLmiami2014_21-web.pdf)

Hi Laura! Welcome to SCBWI and Florida.
When SCBWI launched its new website, Florida stopped using its old one (which is the one you mentioned) and is now on the actual SCBWI site here: https://florida.scbwi.org/
You'll see all the conference info on the right, and here's a direct link to the brochure: https://florida.scbwi.org/wp-content/blogs.dir/28/files/2013/11/SCBWI-FLmiami2014_22-web1.pdf
Don't worry about not seeing it sooner, you haven't missed any of the deadlines! You can still receive the early registration rate and you have until December 10th for our Critique Coordinator to receive your submission/s if you want a paid critique.
We have a very active Facebook group, if you'd like to join us there. We often give event reminders there, plus share marketing and writing news. Here's a link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/29761795185/
Edited to add: Thanks, Vonna! I see that we cross-posted. :grin
-
That is so weird that you couldn't find the information, Laura. But in the future, just check the Florida page at www.scbwi.org. It will always be posted there.
Thanks for posting the info, Vonna and Mindy!

Thank you everyone - I did find the information!

Only two spots left in the Novel Intensive! And picture book people, we added Andrea Pinkney to the Picture Book Intensive! So the faculty now is Toni Buzzeo, Andrea Pinkney, Laura Whitaker and Deborah Warren. It's an incredible line-up!

Hi all, I will be attending the Florida Conference next weekend, and I'm very excited. I've never been to a conference before. So I was wondering if anybody had any advice about how to get the most out of the weekend. I've signed up for two portfolio critiques. Any suggestions on how and what to present at the critiques? I have a book I'm writing and illustrating that is still a work and progress, but I also have some finished illustrations I did for past projects. Is it bad idea to bring all of it to a critique. I'm also curious about the art exhibit that is offered on the 18th. Does anyone have advice for that? Sorry for all the questions!
-
Hi Jack, and welcome to FL SCBWI!
I'm a writer and don't know the answer to your questions, but will put you in touch with our Illustrator Coordinator, Linda Shute.
I look forward to meeting you next weekend.
-
I won't be able to be at the conference, but I'll be thinking about you guys. Have a great weekend!
-
Thanks, Katy. I was hoping to finally see you in person! Maybe I'll have the chance this summer in Orlando.
-
I know, Mindy!
I hope we can meet in Orlando, too.
Have a GREAT conference!
