SCBWI's Blueboard - A Message & Chat Board

A look at the Blueboard's old 20th century friend - The Yellow Board!

Discussion started on

Hi everyone,

We were were looking through some (very) old hard drives recently and found a copy of the original Yellow Board. Talk about a blast from the past!  You'll see some familiar and well-remembered names among the contributors.

An earlier version of this post said - incorrectly - that Yellow was the forerunner of Blue.  Actually, The Yellow Board was started around the same time as the Blue Board, and both were colorful waystations in the early days of the writing web.  Yellow is s distant memory, but how cool to see the Blue Board still going strong.

Enjoy this trip down memory lane:

Oops! There's a slight discrepancy in your facts, Laura. I started the Blueboard completely on my own. The Blueboard never merged with or was a part of the Yellow board in any way. We coexisted (the Yellow Board and the Blueboard) for quite a while, each board giving a valuable service to its members. I was sad to see the end of the Yellow Board, as I was a member of it, too, and have many fond memories of my time spent there.

Thanks for clarifying, Verla! I was pretty sure that was the case (two separate boards), as I have memories of belonging to both for a time. :)

You're absolutely right, Verla.  In fact, after seeing your post, Jon says he was conflating the board with an email discussion list that we started and turned over to someone else.  Both Blue and Yellow started independently. And that you've kept the Blue Board alive and thriving is really remarkable.

Glad you set the record straight.  Still, it's fun to remember those days, when the writing web was still in it's frontier stage.  :)

Those were very special days, indeed, Laura, and those of us who were lucky enough to be a part of those early times are very fortunate to have such wonderful memories. Thanks for reminding us of them!
