Is a contest-winning manuscript considered "published"?

Hello all
I tried unsuccessfully to search this question, sorry if it's  been asked before.  If an unpublished work wins a 'legitimate' contest (SCBWI or otherwise) It will certainly boost the writer's resume, but would this win also make the work unpublishable? Would agents, publishers, etc., consider it published?

thanks

As long as the winning prize doesn't include publication, such as publication in an anthology, then no it isn't considered published.

Always read conference rules carefully. I recall one that said you were giving up all rights to your work by entering.

Also make sure the contest doesn't post the work in full online or publish another way. If they publish in any way, it's published. An excerpt is okay.

Thanks Debbie.
Yes, definitely important to read the fine print. Your second point confirms my concern. Thanks. I'll have to check SCBWI's pages to see if their awards post the manuscripts.
