I am formatting a picture book.  Are there rules or norms about whether the story should begin on the right side or left side.  If the book is open - on the right page or left page.  I am in the US and plan to use IS.   I already have some pages reserved for title, copyright etc. :eastereggs

Usually a book starts on page on a right hand page in a spread, but I don't think it's a hard and fast rule. (Also, something the illustration starts as early as the cover and the story carries through the title and other pages until the text comes in.  I'd do what works best for the book.

I just read Yes Day! and that's exactly how that one worked. I thought it was a fun way to do it (I'm thinking the Pigeon books also tend to work like this?).
