Hi all,
I am contemplating creating a proposal to for a children's picture book workshop for writers, and I'd like to ask what you REALLY want to know about the process of creating a children's book. I am a long-time author with my first published picture book and another under contract. It's been a long process and I wish I had found a mentor to help me along the way. So, thinking about that, I'd love my presentation to address everything aspiring children's book writers would like to know. No suggestion is off limits! Thanks in advance for helping me out!

I would like to see actual PB pages (illustrations and all) with an explanation about what works and what doesn't work and why. It'd be fine if some of them are rough draft pages or unhappy attempts. Even better if you could show and explain a page that doesn't work and then the solution to the same page.

Pons has given a fantastic response.

For newbies, I'd like to see a presentation that explains the process from idea to published book. It needs to include things like why not to hire your own illustrator, why critique groups are necessary, and how long the process takes. Our stickies probably contain a lot of that stuff.
