Title: Anybody out there live in BC?
Post by: Carol Anne on October 25, 2008, 11:13 PM
Being a Newbie, I'm not really sure who is from where...all I know is that this is a fabulous forum with a gazillion extremely talented people who are more than willing to dispense with great advice. I'm so glad I landed here!
I reside on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, and was wondering how many western canucks are hanging out here. I also check out the CANSCAIP pages from time to time, but there seems to be very little activity there...unless you are a torontonian. Even still, their forums are eerily silent!
Just a wonderin'...

Hi CarolAnn

A bunch of us crazy Canucks living in BC have been at SIWC in Surrey over the weekend. I spotted more than just a few from Vancouver way... not to mention Victoria too. I found a bunch from Abbotsford (and we'll be starting a REAL LIVE crit group in the area soon).

I suggest that you speak up here...  we're everywhere!

I'm on the lower mainland.  If you're in the Victoria area, check out the Victoria Children's Literature Roundtable:

I live in Ontario now but partially grew up in Comox BC. I've also moved back several times (my hubby was in the military). I SO miss it. My oldest daughter is going to University in BC (as she misses it too) so I hope to go visit more often. She'll be near Vancouver, most of my family lives on the Island.
Next time I go visit I'll give a shout and maybe some of us can get together.

Alma

I guess this post is kinda old, but I just saw it now. I'm from Abbotsford. I only personally know one other writer from Kelowna and one from Campbell River I think.

Anyway, yes, this is a great group!

Hello all-- I see this is an old topic. I'm in Surrey, BC, where I've occasionally given workshops with the now-defuct CWDP continuing ed program. Anyone else from our neck of the woods joined the boards since the last post on this thread in 2008? I know Lois Peterson is around too-- she is now heading up the private Surrey Writers School.

Maude, thanks for your PM-- I can't reply privately to it because I haven't racked up enough board posts yet.

I went to the SIWC in its early years a few times, at least once as a volunteer-- just haven't had time in more recent years. Because I write SF & Fantasy, I also go many years to V-Con, the Vancouver SF convention. I am looking into CWILL BC at the moment-- maybe I will see you at that conference!

I live in Penticton now, but have moved around a lot and have lived all over BC: up north, the island, the kootenays, the lower mainland, as well as 6 years in Toronto.

I must have missed this thread before...nice to see other BCers here!

The SCBWI conference?  Sorry... SCBWI hasn't come up in this thread, so I didn't realize that's what you were talking about. Guess you must have mentioned it in your PM.  Thanks!

Just saw this.  Now I'm *really* confused. The info MaudeStephany posted is about a conference put on by SCBWI, not CWILL, so that's why you can't find info about it on the CWILL site.  Here's the SCBWI Western Canada conference info webpage:  http://www.scbwicanada.org/west/SCBWIMay2010Conference.html

I'm blaming all this confusion about acronyms on PMS ... sorry for the confusion ladies.

Hi there! I live in Vancouver. I just joined, and I haven’t been to any events or anything yet.

Would be interested in hearing about any ongoing meetup or critique groups.

If there is one specifically for MG fantasy, that would be perfect. But that seems unlikely.
