Title: An Insightful Author/Illustrator Interview
Post by: Cynthia Kremsner on May 04, 2011, 11:44 PM
For illustrators, writers, and writer/illustrators, I've posted an interview with Jim Averbeck. He shares some information about his path to publication . . . first writing, then illustrating and ultimately fulfilling his publication quest of marrying both of his talents with his successful PB series, EXCEPT IF. I'm so glad he has offered some enlightening words and hope you can find some inspiration in his story.

Great interview, Cynthia! Just goes to show, you can be a great illustrator but your "look" may not always be suitable for your own ms. And then may be awesome for someone else's, and then sometimes your own. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you AE . . . and thanks to Jim Averbeck too. I know a few other author/illustrators and their story usually runs the lines of doing the artwork first. Jim had both crafts of writing and illustrating in his favor, but his story is a bit different than other author/illustrators. Some of my favorite illustrators are now writing their own text but the story can go both ways. For the writing part, it was interesting to hear how Jim writes with the illustrator in mind using sensory filled text without being too descriptive and how that ultimately helped his first book get published.

Cynthia,
I heard about 'In a Blue Room' in an editorial talk, it was intriguing to read about the author.
Thanks for the interview and the heads up on your good post!
