Title: Halloween PBs appropriate for K
Post by: majanecka on October 06, 2011, 09:02 AM
My son's kindergarten teacher has asked me to do a Halloween storytime for them.  What are some suggestions for Halloween PBs?  The first one that immedately comes to mind is The Little Old Woman Who Was Not Afraid of anthing.  Bonus points if it lends itself to a puppet show or having the  children act it out as in the past I've done numerous puppet shows for them which they love.  One of my favorite teaching memories was of having my first graders act out fairy tales especially The Three Little Billy Goats Gruff was hysterical.

We love Big Pumpkin. I believe the author is Erica Silverman? It's a Halloween twist on the Big Turnip(Halloween characters trying to pull a big pumpkin out of the ground. It's great for acting out!

My son loves Happy Halloween Stinky Face and the illustrations are great, bold, and very relatable to the kids that age.

The Vanishing Pumpkin by Tony Johnston and illustrated by Tomie DePaola

is my all time favorite halloween book for reading to young children! The story lends itself to being read with a theatrical voice and there are parts that they can repeat with you.
"In fact they fairly flew!" The illustrations always crack me up.
