Title: Spain/Italy help needed!
Post by: denise on November 16, 2011, 05:38 PM
I'm working on a new book and part of it takes place in Spain and Italy. I have some detailed questions like what kind of food you can get in train stations that I'd love to ask of someone who knows the areas. My story specifically takes place in Barcelona and Milan. I do have some other small, detailed questions that I'm having trouble answering through my own Internet research, so I'd love to find someone I can stay in contact with. If you can help, I'd be forever grateful!

Denise, if you can't find anyone here, I have a close friend who lived in Spain for two years that I'd be happy to connect you with.  She loves to talk about her time in Spain, though it was a couple of decades ago.

I also have a cousin living there as we speak.  I can get word to her, too, if you need something about today's Spain.

I don't know but my mother said she had the best fish she's ever eaten at the airport in Sicily. Yes. The airport.

I just vacationed in Italy and spent some time in various Italian train stations if you have some general questions....you can PM me or ask here and I'll see if I'm any help! :)

I'd be happy to answer your Italy questions, Denise. I've lived there for almost 10 years total, and go back every summer.

I lived in Barcelona for three years; I'd be happy to answer questions.

People in Spain take pride in not eating fast food or food on the go, but in a pinch (or in the case of just a quick snack) in a train station, the equivalent of something to go is a bocadillo (a sandwich made on a crusty, narrow baguette , most frequently jamon and cheese).

Wow, thank you all so much for responding. I will be contacting many of you privately with questions as I have them. Thanks again!

Hi, Denise,

It looks like you've got plenty of helpers but feel free to contact me also. I lived in Burgos, Spain for several years and have spent summers in Pisciotta, Italy. Although we drove back and forth most of the time, we did it once by hopping on and off trains. The Italian trains are much more 'challenging' to the weary traveler.
