I'm going on vacation in a few days and need some good adult fiction recommendations (my reading list for MG and YA is a mile long so I'm all set there.)
I'm reading Gone Girl for my book club, but am looking for a couple more titles. To give you an idea of my taste, my favorite adult book of the year is Vanessa Diffenbaugh's The Language of Flowers.
Thanks, everybody!

Any of Sarah Addison Allen, I believe her latest is The Peach Keeper. I also enjoy Dorothea Benton Frank, I believe her latest is Porch Lights.
-
Thank you! I just ordered Frank's Sullivan's Island because it looked like the perfect beach read.
Any other recommendations from anyone?

I really liked "Bloodroot" by Amy Greene.
-
Was Gone Girl good? I keep hearing so much about it, but it didn't seem like the kind of book I wanted to read.
I really like Laura Griffin for some light thriller/romance adult reading.

Well, I think our tastes are pretty different, but I like Mary Stewart's classics or Linda Howard (in case you want ideas overall). Enjoy your trip!

Read The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey recently. Loved it.
-
I recently enjoyed The Next Best Thing, by Jennifer Weiner. Screenwriter finally gets a TV show accepted, difficulties ensue, and oh, yes, she has a Big Personal Thing to deal with. Totally a beach book, very well done.

Anything by Lee Child :)

Lots to check out... thanks, everybody!
(Robin, I just PM'd you about something on the board that I can't figure out.)
-
Cindy - I just asked the other mods about it - I'll get back to you as soon as *I* figure it out! :)

I just read Ann Patchett's STATE OF WONDER, which I highly recommend. I'm currently reading a slow-paced but beautfully written novel, MAJOR PETTIGREW'S LAST STAND, by Helen Simonson.
For light reading, you can't beat Alexander McCall Smith's NO. 1 LADIES' DETECTIVE AGENCY series. Easy read & deeply satisfying.

Oh, I *loved* Major Pettigrew's Last Stand! Also, I just ordered May the Road Rise Up to Meet You and can't wait for it to get here...

I second Mary Stewart, and pretty much anything by Agatha Christie.
