Title: Comic Book Script Format
Post by: JonathanMaberry on June 21, 2013, 08:15 AM
I've been writing for Marvel Comics since 2008 and, more recently, Dark Horse. If anyone would like a sample of a comic book script, let me know. The industry uses Word rather than special software, but there is a preferred format. I'm happy to share.  And the same goes for a story synopsis and beat sheet.

Hey Jonathan.  When I saw the subject of your post, I assumed you were asking for help and was going to point you in the direction of Brandon Easton, a screenwriter/comic script writer.  He offers a lot of help on his website.  Instead, I see that you are OFFERING assistance, which I think is lovely.  I don't have any questions, just wanted to say how nice it is that you are here to help people.

Sure! I'd love to see a format. I probably wouldn't write a comic book but my husband just might. Thanks!

I'd actually love to see it, too.  I wasn't plan on writing a comic book, either, but I am interested in what that sort of thing would look like!

I'm interested, too...wondering if it's similar to the manuscript I put together for my recent graphic science book. Thanks, Jonathan.

Folks, you probably should PM your email addresses to Jonathan because otherwise, how will he know where to send it? (Anyone too new to have PM privileges can click on the "report to moderator" link in one of the posts and ask an admin to forward your email to him.)

Since I've recently returned, my absence started me back at square one. Which means I have to re-earn the privilege of sending or responding to private messages. Soooooo...if anyone does want a copy of that graphic novel script, include your email address in a private message to me and I'll send it off.

Since I'm still a relative newbie here, I can't respond to emails, so if you want a sample of a comic book script, send me a regular email at jonathan_maberry@yahoo.com. Mention Blue Boards in the subject bar.
