Title: Favorite picture books with a friendship theme?
Post by: Margaret G on June 30, 2013, 11:03 AM
Hi Everyone,

I'm currently writing a PB about a pair of best friends and looking for some comparisons.

What are some of your favorite recently published friendship-centered picture books?  Here are a few that I found:
* Harry and Horsie and its follow up Cookiebot,
* Ame Dyckman's Boy and Bot,
* Oliver Jeffers' Lost and Found,
* Tammi Sauer's Nugget and Fang.

Any more would be appreciated! Thanks!

Kate DiCamillo's Bink and Gollie and Mo Willems Elephant and Piggie books, although I think they are considered and easy reader and not PB. I still read them to my kids like PB's.

This is a little different in the way it's done, but I consider "Leonardo, the Terrible Monster" by Mo Willems to be an excellent friendship book.

Friends by Helme Heine. It's about three friends: a pig, a chicken, and a mouse. They go around town on a bike. The pig and mouse work the pedals while the chicken steers the handlebars. They spend all day pursuing their common interests, but they they each have different needs when it comes to sleeping, so they happily separate at night to their own homes. Great book.

BAT AND RAT. Really wanted this to be an early reader when I ordered it, it isn't. But it's cute and wacky.

I think Candlewick's Big Bear/Little Bear books are classic friend stories, but some see just parent. More old and gold: The Old Man and  his Door. Tough Boris. Best Friends for Frances. Tops and Bottoms.
