For just picture books, my favorite is Writing Picture Books by Ann Whitford Paul.

I second that! :goldstar

Thanks for starting this thread, jojocookie!

Yes, I do have the one book, How To Illustrate Children's Books And Get Them Published.
In my search I did happen to run across: Picture Writing by Anastasia Suen.
Happy to please, RaeE. :grin

I'm going to vote for Writing Picture Books by Ann Whitford Paul too!
Two that are for illustrators, but have great info about story (helpful to writers too - if you want to think of the visual side of the story, and how that affects and intertwines with the words):
Writing with Pictures: How to Write and Illustrate Children's Books by Uri Shulevitz
Picture This: How Pictures Work by Molly Bang

:exactly: Thanks everyone. I know this will be a help.

One I just read recently and discussed on another thread is Linda Ashman's The Nuts and Bolts Guide to Writing Picture Books, which is for sale as a PDF on her website (http://www.lindaashman.com/newsletter.htm). It's particularly good about rhyme, but I learned a ton about the basic how-to's of pb writing.

Joan Aiken's Writing for Children, Susan Cooper's Dreams and Wishes, and Richard Peck's Invitations to the World are my favorite books on writing. I also really like Uri Shulevitz's Writing with Pictures.
